Description of the Class:

This course will present a range of options for implementing the technique of kiln casting glass in open mold. Participants will get introduce to work process and various technological procedures. The course will include development of custom sculptures from your own designs, to models and the way of its implementation. Within 10 days, we will focus on lectures of technology and history of glass sculptures, screenings, discussions and glass experiments in small kiln. After kiln casting the sculptures will be cut and polished within the available time. The class is reasonably challenging and requires full physical commitment and enthusiasm to learn new things. Limit for realization of glass sculpture is a weight up to 15 kg and thickness up to 6cm. Maximal dimensions of sculptures are 30 × 30 cm as a 60 × 60 cm. The price includes material for mold, 6 kg of glass and use of glass technologies.


Supplementary Programme:

The stay will be accompanied by glass review talk, a lecture of instructors, a commented visit of the IGS exhibition and an excursion of the Sázava Monastery. 

Profile of the Instructor:

Father and son. Two generations, two different approaches, which are reflected within a strong distinctive artistic speech, which follows the mutual relationship, mutual respect and similarities. Both like to experiment; their work is characterized by constant authentic combination of techniques and materials. Jaromir Rybak studied firstly at Glass School in Zelezny Brod and in 1979 graduated from the Academy of Arts in Prague with Professor Libenský. He works as an independent artist in field of glass sculptures, drawings and paintings and art in architecture. Jaromir Rybak is a founding member of the art group RUBIKON 1998 and he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world. He has led courses on Espås du Verre in Canada, Aichi University in Japan, Corning Glass Museum in USA and the University of Canberra in Australia.
