The main theme of the class is a preparation of the artifacts with fusing and kiln-forming technique. This class is designed especially for active users of this technology, whether beginners or advanced. The class begins with a theoretical introduction of the thermal processing of flat glass in the kiln, taught by Jaroslav Švácha (TDK), followed by some new developments in fusing techniques and their practical application. Further, we will put the theory into practice by using the si individual techniques of fusing and kiln-forming, working with frits, laminating etc. In a nutshell, within this four days class, we will get familiar with the glass fusing and kiln-forming theory which we will then be practicing.
Jaroslav Švácha is a glass technologist and executive head of the TGK – technique, glass and art Ltd. company based in Skalice u České Lípy town. For over 15 years, the company TGK specializes in the processing of flat color glass and implementation of glass in architecture with fusing technology. Furthermore, the company makes lighting and custom built commissions. The company strives, with each of its one of a kind accomplishments, to reach the limits of glass-making and is not afraid of experimenting. Irena Czepcová (born in 1986) graduated in 2013 from the Faculty of art and design of the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem, where she studied with professor and painter Ilja Bílek. In 2012, she got a scholarship to work with Jeffrey Sarmiente at the University of Sunderland in Great Britain. In 2014, she worked as an Emerging Artist in Residence in Pilchuk Glass school (WA, USA). Currently, she works in glass industry where she replicates 2D glass structure decorations. Since 2011, she also works in Penocze studio.
